Tibetan Dapon (brigadier) from the Special Frontier Force, 1978. He wears a maroon beret with the SFF cap badge; the same badge is seen on the belt buckle. On his left shoulder is the SFF formation insignia; an SFF title is worn on both shoulders. The rank insignia are of a design unique to the SFF. Standard Indian Army parachute wings are worn over the right pocket; in the mid-1970s the SFF’s distinctive ‘flying dagger’ parachute wings were phased out. A small jump indicator wing is pinned to the left pocket.

In mid-1990 an NSG battalion was again deployed to the Punjab to confront Sikh rioters. There they began training the Punjabi police in counter-terrorism. Currently, the Army continues to loan personnel to the SAG, although most tend to come from units other than the Parachute Regiment. One SAG team is permanently stationed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi for hostage situations.
